My Thoughts on the Tea Dragon society

I’ve always heard amazing things about The Tea Dragon Society, but I never really picked up the novel.

Well, good thing I did because The Tea Dragon Society is one of the most stunning graphic novels I’ve read.

The novel has a unique concept. We follow Greta, who’s a blacksmith apprentice, and she comes by a tea dragon. Tea Dragons are incredibly charming creatures that sprout tea leaves from their bodies. When these tea leaves are brewed and savored, they evoke a flood of cherished memories for the lucky drinkers.

I wish I could sprout tea leaves.

The art style is so enchanting, and it gives off this cottage-core vibe. It definitely felt like the tea dragons were jumping off the pages.

I thoroughly appreciate the representation in this novel. We’re in an age now that middle grade novels are embracing diversity, and I’m all for it. There’s LGBTQIA+ and racial representation that’s unified in the story.

There’s a variety of beautiful themes the story explores. We have a character that’s dealing with memory loss, and a character battling a disability.

It’s worth noting that the plot of this novel is indeed lighthearted. There’s not going to be a lot of action scenes, and I’ve heard people say the plot doesn’t go anywhere, but honestly, I firmly believe the magic of the novel lies there.

It’s a wholesome, cozy and inclusive novel full of important morals and messages. It’s just meant to be comforting!
