What do you think makes a story spectacular?

I think a story is spectacular if it is engrossing—the type of story you want to keep reading forever! That experience is very subjective, but I like that because it means that many books could be considered ‘spectacular’ if read by the right person.

Which book was the most challenging for you to write?

Honestly, probably Dungeons & Drama. I knew it had potential, but I really struggled with it at first. I changed character motivations halfway through drafting and the entire thing was such a mess that I was tempted to just drop it and move on. I’m so glad I didn’t!

Who or what inspired you to write romance novels?

I don’t think I have one inspiration, I’ve just always loved romance. I was drawn to romantic storylines throughout my life (even when I was young) so I think it’s just my personality, haha! But I also married my high school sweetheart so that’s definitely been an inspiration as well.

If you could be mentored by a famous author, who would it be?

Oh wow, I don’t know! Can I choose Jane Austen? I think it would be amazing to meet her and I can’t think of someone better suited to mentor me in writing romance novels!

What is the most challenging aspect of creating characters of the opposite gender?

Probably trying to figure out how that person might think and react to things. When writing you have to try to get out of your own head and imagine what another (imaginary) person might do, and that’s harder when the person doesn’t have the same gender as you.

What three words would you choose to describe yourself?

Kind, organized, hard-working

What essentials do you require in your writing environment to enhance your concentration?

I’m not sure anything is completely “essential,” but I love having a candle lit while writing. I usually listen to music while writing so that’s helpful. And a mug of tea, of course!

Lastly [this might be the most important question], what is your favorite reading snack?

There are these chocolate biscuits I got in England that are so good—I love to read and snack on one of those!
