Welcome to Shelf Sanctuary! It’s a pleasure to have you here

I’m Ira

I was in 8th grade and a year younger than most of my peers when I first learned what “sanctuary” meant. Granted, big, furry animals were used to exemplify the word’s definition. But all that was on my mind was that, just as those creatures found refuge in lush fields, I found the same in books, comics, and webtoons.

These are places I can escape to just by the turn of a page or click of the screen. Places where I can learn, think, feel, and recharge without judgment. You’d be surprised by how much reading has impacted me.  It was in a YA contemporary novel that I discovered Amsterdam had a special use for coffee shops. My hopeless romantic nature stems from reading.

I started Shelf Sanctuary, a tad belatedly due to fear, to express my love for reading, but mainly so that when someone stumbles, voluntarily or inadvertently, onto this book-manga-webtoon-blog-but-ocassionally-with-movies-and-shows, they know it’s a safe space for them.

Shelf Sanctuary is just another book blog in the marvelous and underrated book blogging community. I’m very grateful to be a part of a community that is so supportive and works tirelessly to share its passion for reading.

So whoever you are, wherever you’re from, I hope you have a welcome, safe, and enriching stay at Shelf Sanctuary.

Some Facts About me

  • I’m a quiet person—nearing the extreme introversion area of the scale. (Nearing because Susan Cain says no one can be an extreme introvert. I sort of believe her word as the gospel) For a long time, I felt shame about being a quiet soul with a soft-spoken voice but I don’t now. The world needs more introverts!
  • I was a pure dog lover and never really liked cats until one fine day my fate crossed with an adorable stray. She then turned out to be the first in an impressive legacy of cat-stays in my home. I can safely say I’m a cat person now. Still love dogs but love cats now too 🙂
  • If 75% of our bodies are water, mine is water in the form of tea/coffee.
  • I have never seen snow! Only the fake kind. Oh, I’d so love to see snow and make snowmen and snow angels.
  • My favorite TV show is Castle. Kate Beckett is, and will always be, my role model.
  • I despise exercise. I just… nope. I can swim, take walks, and explore the world but I cannot go to the gym.
  • I’m fully convinced beds are just inedible marshmallows. I love sleeping.
  • I write better than I speak.
  • I adore the rain… at least when it’s not falling on me 😉

Don’t Miss Out on my rants and raves
